The history of the fund went back to the old C&W Charity Trust and was created by the creativity and commitment of staff to garner funds for the fledgling Fund and to support people less fortunate. Some of the old initiatives were people in Johannesburg chasing around Kyalami pushing beds dressed in all sorts of gear and Fridays where staff came to the Offices in “casual gear” and placing their “casual day” donation into the Charity Trust. As the Group has grown and become a global, this fund has changed, and through the amazingly generous contributions of time and money, the Hobart Enterprises Charity Trust has a foundation that we are working hard to grow and support educational and appropriate employee driven initiatives.
At HECT we talk about FOUNDATION and ACTIVITY. FOUNDATION is at the core of the fund, the stuff you don’t see but ensures that the fund remains strong and sustainable. To this end, the team is divided into the subgroups, and they drive their respective responsibilities at all times remembering that if the foundation is not strong, the fund will not achieve its goals. ACTIVITIES are the initiatives you see, are generated by staff to support and get to the HEART of the fund and the charitable causes we support with time and financial resources.
